Irish's Kearney named Holy Cross coach (AP)
Sean Kearney is the new basketball coach at Holy Cross. The former Notre Dame assistant was named Thursday to succeed Ralph Willard, who resigned last month after 10 seasons to become Rick Pitino's associate head coach at Louisville. Kearney, 49, spent the last nine seasons as Mike Brey's associate head coach, serving as national recruiting coordinator.

Self: Henry brothers to play for Kansas (AP)
Kansas coach Bill Self's fence-mending trip worked: Xavier and C.J. Henry are still coming to Lawrence to play for the Jayhawks. A day after traveling to Oklahoma City for an air-clearing meeting with two of his prized recruits, Self said Wednesday that Xavier and C.J. will play for Kansas next season.

Butler will meet Georgetown and Indiana will face Pittsburgh in this year's Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden. The pairings for the Dec. 8 doubleheader were announced Wednesday. NCAA rejects Kelvin Sampson's appeal (AP)

The NCAA said Tuesday June 30, 2009, that the NCAA Division I infractions Committee has upheld the violations stemming from more than 100 impermissible phone calls made while Sampson was coaching at Indiana.

Irish promote Inglesby to assistant (AP)
Notre Dame basketball coach Mike Brey has promoted Martin Ingelsby to assistant coach, filling the vacancy created when nine-year associate head coach Sean Kearney was hired as head coach at Holy Cross. Brey said Friday that Ingelsby is considered a rising star in coaching and has gained the respect of other coaches around the country.

Son of Northridge coach given probation (AP)
The son of the head basketball coach at Cal State-Northridge has been sentenced to probation and community service after pleading no contest to charges of stealing from the Best Buy store where he worked. Jeffrey Braswell, the son of coach Bobby Braswell, pleaded no contest Thursday in San Fernando Superior Court to five felony counts.

The Tar Heels will wear the swoosh for the next nine years. University of North Carolina officials said Wednesday they have signed a 10-year contract for Nike to supply athletic equipment and apparel to its sports teams.
